Here’s our ranking of the Big Brother 22 twists

While Big Brother 22 was light on the surprises, a valiant effort was made this season to throw some twists into the ring and see what stuck. Unfortunately, not every twist was a winner.

Let’s talk about them!

3. Safety Suite Competition

This all-star season kicked off with a twist, unlike any other.

With the Safety Suite competition, for the first time, Big Brother HouseGuests would have the opportunity to win safety from the threat of eviction before they even had a chance to end up on the chopping block. In Week 1, the HOH Cody would call everyone to the Living Room, where he would hand out VIP Passes to the Safety Suite.

With these one-time-use passes, each HouseGuest would have the opportunity to enter the Safety Suite and compete in a competition to win safety for themselves and a Plus One of their choosing for the week. That same week, with a countdown clock ticking on the TV, Janelle and Kaysar would be the first to swipe their passes and enter the Safety Suite, with Kaysar ultimately winning the competition and choosing Janelle as his Plus One.

As a result, Cody would be forced to come up with a new plan and would ultimately choose to nominate Kevin and Keesha, with Keesha being the first all-star evicted from the house. In Week Two, Memphis would weaponize the Safety Suite, refusing to ensure safety to any of his fellow HouseGuests in an attempt to force them to use their Safety Suite passes and give him an easier shot to win the competition the following week.

Although Enzo would end up winning the following week’s Safety Suite competition and would choose Christmas as his Plus One, Memphis would remain safe due to The Committee’s preoccupation with Janelle and Kaysar. Having used their passes in Week 1, Janelle and Kaysar would find themselves being targeted for real this time, and that week, Janelle would head out the door with Kaysar following a week later.

While the Safety Suite competition provided a twist that seemed to give all players an equal advantage by emphasizing the social and physical aspects of the game, much like Big Brother 21’s Camp Comeback, which provided a life-line for evicted players, the Safety Suite pushed the game into a state of stasis. Having to deal with a twist that could change their plans before they even had a chance to act on them solidified The Committee’s bond with each other and, as a result, halted them from making big moves, a trend which would continue until the Triple Eviction.

2. Neighbor’s House/ Triple Eviction

In Week 8, following Da’Vonne’s eviction, Julie would call everyone to the Living Room to announce that a BB legend was moving into the house next door.

That legend would be the winner of Big Brother 2 and fourth-place finisher in Big Brother 7, Dr. Will Kirby. In a video message, Dr. Will would inform the all-star HouseGuests that for the next week, they would have the opportunity to compete for power or prizes at that week’s HOH and POV competitions.

While David, Dani, and Tyler would each walk away with some cash prizes, the fun wouldn’t stop there as before that week’s eviction, Dr. Will would send the HouseGuests another message, telling them that they should all be thinking three steps ahead. Of course, this message would tease the first Big Brother (U.S.) Triple Eviction, which would see the HouseGuests experiencing two weeks of Big Brother in one night.

Unfortunately, with the HouseGuests tipped off about what was to come, they would have ample time to plan, leading to a Triple Eviction that would have a foregone conclusion from the word “go.”

However, as with Double Evictions, a Triple Eviction is the culmination of weeks worth of strategy. If you haven’t set yourself up well socially, then you’re likely to find yourself on the chopping block when you least expect it.

1. BB Basement competition

At number one, we’ve got the BB Basement competition.

In Week 5, the HouseGuests were granted access to the BB Basement. Upon entry, the Big Brother 22 HouseGuests found themselves inside of a pitch-black room and were tasked with locating three symbols that represented powers that could help the possessor change the game.

When all was said and done, David, Dani, and Christmas would walk away as the victors, and in the DR would individually learn what each power did. David’s power would be called “The Disruptor” and would give him the ability to save a nominee from the chopping block at any of the next three Nomination Ceremonies. Dani’s power would be called “The Replay” and would allow her to play in back-to-back HOH competitions if ever she became HOH or gift the power to someone else.

Christmas’s power would be called “The Blocker” and would allow her to block herself or one of her allies from being named as the replacement nominee if the Veto was used.

In Week 6, David would end up using his power to remove himself from the block after being nominated with Kevin by Dani, who, in a moment of panic, would nominate her ally Tyler in David’s place. In Week 7, Dani would gift her power to that week’s HOH Memphis. While the blood remained off of her hands, Memphis would have no intention of winning that week’s HOH competition, and “The Replay” power would expire with a whimper as would Christmas’s.

Although this twist left much to be desired, it would end up being the most successful twist of Big Brother 22 for a few reasons. For starters, due to the nature of the competition, everyone would have an equal opportunity to win power. The powers themselves were not overpowered, giving the person that possessed any one of them the ability to perform a singular action, once.

As a result, any drama that resulted from the powers’ activation resulted from how those powers were utilized.

While Christmas’s and Dani’s powers expired without much fervor, the activation of David’s power would provide some much-needed entertainment, with Tyler being forced to feel the block for the second time in his Big Brother career, and David unnecessarily lying about possessing the power.

Apparently, the best Big Brother twists are those that only the worst player could manage to complicate.
