If you live in the UK, you probably are already well aware of what the Eat Out to Help Out program entails. This scheme, which you can read more about here, was meant to provide cheaper meals for those in need, by having participating restaurants allow 50% discounts to customers.

The Eat Out to Help Out plan was closed on September 1 2020, and now there’s been talk that it might actually be brought back in time for the holidays. Of course, we all know that the November and December months can be tough on our wallets, as many people spend a fortune on gifts, food, and various festivities.

While the Eat Out to Help Out initiative might seem like a great idea to many, it actually garnered tons of controversy back in August. As reported by The Guardian, it was believed that this plan could’ve helped cause another wave of COVID-19 to begin, as apparently the discounts were encouraging more and more people to go eat out.

So when reports came out earlier this week that the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, was hinting the initiative could come back, there were actually some mixed reactions. Sure, no would wants to say no to discounts, but to some people, this opportunity might’ve been abused last time it was in place.

Overall, however, most people would love for Eat Out to Help Out to come back. So is it really?

Well, looks like it’s all just been a rumor, for now. Sunak took to Twitter, as reported by London Eater, to debunk the claim that he teased anything.

When journalist Sonia Sodha tweeted out that Sunak did not tease Eat Out to Help Out was making a comeback, the Chancellor quote-tweeted her message and added a simple pointing down finger emoji, as if to emphasis her point.
