A breakdown of the live TV ratings from Thursday, Nov. 12

Fall TV is back in order. Thursday, Nov. 12 saw the returns of two shows in the TGIT lineup, a comedy on CBS, and a crime drama on NBC. Here’s a look at the live TV ratings for the night.

Let’s start with FOX, which aired Thursday Night Football. It was the winner of the night with eight million viewers and 2.2 in the demo. This isn’t that surprising. However, CBS and ABC weren’t too far behind it.

ABC, CBS, and NBC premieres

Station 19, Grey’s Anatomy, The Unicorn, and Law & Order: SVU all returned during the night. Things kicked off with Station 19, which picked up in the middle of the pandemic. That storyline followed on in Grey’s Anatomy, giving us a look at what first responders and doctors have faced throughout the pandemic.

Station 19 Season 4’s debut was down from the third season premiere. That’s not uncommon, so we’re not concerned about this. Grey’s Anatomy also dipped. In fact, not only did the medical drama dip compared to the previous season, but the second episode of the night also dropped by 11% in the audience and 14% in the demo.

The two shows remained the top of the scripted dramas. There was only one scripted show that beat the two in the audience, and that was a comedy on CBS. Grey’s Anatomy won the demo in scripted content throughout the night.

The Unicorn debuted its second season losing 34% of its audience and 51% of its demo compared to its series premiere. This isn’t all that surprising, but it is a large drop. We’ll need to keep an eye on the show to see how it stabilizes, because it failed to hold onto the lead the three previous comedies had.

Law & Order: SVU Season 22 debuted with a 23% drop in the audience and 20% drop in the demo compared to the premiere. There’s nothing to worry about here. The show has been renewed through to Season 24, so there’s no need to keep an ee on these figures.

Young Sheldon up, The Outpost steady in the live TV ratings

What about the shows with new episodes? Young Sheldon was up 4% in the audience and 14% in the demo. Usually, the second episodes dip, but I do wonder if there’s been some confusion about when shows are returning this year. The comedy won the night out of scripted content in the audience.

B Positive dropped 8% in the audience and 16% in the demo compared to the previous episode. The previous episode was the series premiere so the drop isn’t surprising. In fact, the drop isn’t that large, which is a good sign for the future of the series. We’ll keep a close eye on this comedy.

Mom was up in the audience by 5% and steady in the demo. Considering this was the second episode without lead Anna Feris, that’s not a bad sign.

Superstore also ticked up in the audience and was steady in the demo. This was the first episode without lead America Ferrara, so we’ll need to see how the views stabilize after this. Did the rest of the cast hold the attention of the audience?

Supernatural and The Outpost did well on The CW. Supernatural had a small dip in the total audience but remained over the million in the episode that dealt with ChuckThe Outpost was steady in the audience and demo.

Finally, it’s all about Star Trek: Discovery. The CBS All Access show ticked up 41% in the audience and 50% in the demo. This wasn’t a bad idea from CBS for pandemic programming, and it could be something the network does in the summer to save money.
