Is the movie Run on Hulu any good?
By Sandy C.
Run is now streaming on Hulu, but is the movie worth watching? Here’s what we think!
Hulu has a new original movie streaming just in time for the weekend. Run, starring Sarah Paulson and Kiera Allen, is the streaming service’s new debut.
Critics are praising the movie over at Rotten Tomatoes, and there is definitely a lot to love about Run. However, I must share my unpopular opinion and say that the movie simply did not live up to my expectations.
Run follows Diane (Paulson), a seemingly loving mom who cares for her disabled daughter Chloe (Allen). To the world, Diane is patient, kind, and puts Chloe’s needs before her own, always. The two have a great relationship, though Diane is very strict.
Audiences learn that Diane is suffering from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, which is a mental illness that makes a parent or caretaker purposely make their children sick by injecting them with toxins or giving them wrong medications.
I won’t spoil any details, other than the last half of the movie seeing Chloe trying to escape her mother’s grasp. It all leads up to a pretty dark and merciless finale.
Run on Hulu: Pros and cons
What I love most about Run is that Kiera Allen truly does use a wheelchair in real life. Allen is incredibly talented and literally does not let her disability hold her back. Huge applause goes out to the crew for their authentic casting.
Another thing that made me excited to watch Run on Hulu was Sarah Paulson’s involvement. Paulson is a rare talent, particularly in this genre — which I assumed would be a thriller based on the trailer.
Unfortunately, it didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat as I was hoping it would. Don’t get me wrong, the movie is entertaining to some level, but I can’t say I would highly recommend it. And I would definitely not make watching the movie a priority.
Run on Hulu is a good movie to watch when you’ve seen it all or if you’re a big fan of Sarah Paulson. But, other than the ending, it’s a predictable story. For the same genre and story, I suggest watching The Act on Hulu.
If you have seen the movie, what did you think about it? Do you agree with our thoughts or enjoy Run more than we did?
