Comedian Billy Connolly is known both on stage and off as an outspoken and of course, overall hilarious person. He began his comedy career back in the 1970s, and has since become a household name for his stand-up performances and roles in films.

The Scottish star is known to be pretty open with the public when it comes to his career, personal life, and even personal struggles. Back in 2013, news hit that Billy was unfortunately diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and he has since been very candid with the media on how that experience has been.

While speaking to Radio Times in 2014, he opened up on finding out he had both Parkinson’s disease and prostate cancer on the same day. As reported by The Guardian, Billy Connolly shared of his diagnosis:

"Aye, it just happened. I think they’re very closely related, deep despair and laughing. And I wasn’t in any pain."

Over the years, Billy has gotten real with his fans on the difficulties he’s faced with Parkinson’s, and has even stated that he’s retired from stand-up comedy because of it. Although it’s extremely sad to see the comedian’s career potentially ending, he’s seemingly remained in good spirits for at least most of the time.

According to Dorset Eye, Billy spoke with Sky News earlier this year and discussed how Parkinson’s was halting his stand-up performances. He also gave his two cents on UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, saying that he’s “a big, silly toff.”

You can watch his interview below.

While Billy Connolly is sadly done with stand-up comedy, we hope to see more from him soon. He has a Twitter account, which you can see here, but sadly he has not tweeted since 2013.

We’re wishing good health for this star, and hope he can continue to keep a positive attitude.
