Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker is a must-watch this holiday season

The Nutcracker Ballet is a holiday tradition for dancers and theater-lovers alike each holiday season. With theaters around the world having to cancel performances and close their doors this year, a new inside look at one very special production of The Nutcracker Ballet called the Hot Chocolate Nutcracker will be available to stream on Netflix.

From the popular production company Shondaland, the new original documentary film Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker “shines a light on the work of trailblazing icon Debbie Allen and her reimagining of the classic ballet.”

The show is put on every year as both an incredible learning opportunity and as a fundraiser for the gifted students at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy in Los Angeles. Allen is known for her work as an actor, choreographer, director, producer, dancer, and writer — and her inspirational reworking of this famous ballet is a must-watch this season.

More from Drama

Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker is 80 minutes long and promises to take viewers behind the scenes of the performance and into the intense dance rehearsals and logistics that go into creating this annual show.

The documentary also features intimate interviews with Allen, the other dance instructors at the dance academy, and some of the students performing in the ballet.

In addition to having audiences follow the journey of bringing this show to life, the documentary also “provides fascinating insights into Allen’s own personal journey pursuing an art form where she did not always see herself reflected in its imagery”.
