5 WTF moments from Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 4
The moments that made us go ‘WTF’ on Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 4
Caution: There are spoilers from Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 4 in this post.
Meredith’s COVID symptoms get worse, leading to Webber fearing the worst on Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 4. Meanwhile, life goes on for everyone else.
This episode delivered a promise from the previous episode. Someone else was on the beach, and most people guessed it right. The question is whether this is the only other familiar face we’ll see. This part of the story clearly isn’t over so don’t count on no more.
O’Malley returns
If you thought either George or Lexie would return, you’d have guessed right. It turns out it was George on the beach, and Meredith couldn’t help but ask how he got so old despite being dead. Since the sand isn’t real, bodies aren’t real either.

While there is a bit of a catch-up sort of thing (it turns out George haunts people and checks in on them from time to time), this moment is important. George talks all about choices that people make. He didn’t have a choice in death, but would have chosen to stay. Will Meredith get a choice?
He doesn’t know that. One thing his return does mean is that Webber makes a choice. Hearing Meredith mention George’s name, Webber decides he needs to get Meredith into a trial for COVID patients. Her life depends on it.
Koracick blows up the world
Koracick is going a little stir crazy at home. It turns out he’s trying to use his time to find a cure for COVID.
It doesn’t go all that well, though. In the end, he blows up the world. Everyone is going to die anyway, so he might as well bring it to an end early.
Yes, he’s getting extremely pessimistic. That’s not surprising as by the end of the episode his symptoms are much worse. He has a fever, and from the promo for the next episode, he needs to be admitted to hospital.
Owen acknowledges his unconscious racism
While that happens on Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 4, Owen has a patient of his own to deal with. More importantly, he has a misdiagnosis to deal with.
There was a lot of speculation that he was receiving a diagnosis. It turns out he misdiagnosed a patient, mostly because he didn’t consider that a certain illness is more likely in Asian Americans than Caucasians.
Owen has to face his unconscious bias and racism. He didn’t mean to do it, but there are no excuses. Bailey tells him that now he knows his unconscious bias, he can learn from it. Now he needs to make changes to ensure it doesn’t happen again. It’s up to him to learn, and that’s something we can all do.
Jackson and Jo hook up
On a lighter note, we get some more time between Jackson and Jo. The two are back to being friends, but that quickly turns into a passionate night of sex.
At the end of the episode, Jackson makes it clear that he doesn’t want a relationship. That’s okay; that’s not what Jo wants either. Her husband only recently left her and he isn’t the type of person he wants a relationship with.
The two are just going to be friends with benefits. How long will that last until it does turn into something more?
Maggie remains calm while being ghosted
The last WTF moment is a good one involving Maggie. We’ve seen how she reacts in relationships in the past. When something bad happens, she obsesses over it. Well, not on Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 4.
After a virtual dinner with his grandma goes a little wrong when his dad shows up, Winston starts ghosting her. Rather than pester him or get annoyed, Maggie accepts that he needs time to process things.
By the end of the episode, they’re in a good place again. There’s a lot of hope for these two, and I love that Maggie has been able to grow, even just a little.
