Clay really is a member of the brotherhood on SEAL Team

Caution: There are spoilers from the SEAL Team Season 4 premiere in this post.

The SEAL Team Season 4 premiere was full of action, wrapped-up storylines (sort of), and reveals. Clay showed us just how much he’s grown from the very first episode with a selfless decision.

More from CBS

At the end of their deployment, Bravo Team learned they would all face an investigation. NCIS (do you think Gibbs would show up?) was looking into the letter sent to the Marsden family. This came off the back of the good news that Ray was heading off to warrant officer training.

Clay chose to come forward as the culprit. To be honest, a lot of fans thought either he’d done it or his girlfriend Rebecca was guilty. We didn’t expect the reveal that came in the SEAL Team Season 4 premiere.

Clay took the blame for one of his own

Ray was the one to send the letter. He was the one who would have lost everything had he been caught. And it would have been worse for him as he wouldn’t have stepped forward before the investigation started.

Clay knew that it was Ray. He also knew that Ray had much more than he did to lose. Clay is still young, doesn’t have a family, and hadn’t bought a new house. He knew that there was time for his career to build back up from this, so it was better for him to take the blame instead of Ray.

The Clay of SEAL Team Season 1 wouldn’t have done this

The SEAL Team Season 4 premiere tells us one thing. Clay isn’t the boy he used to be. There is no way the Clay we knew all the way back in the first season would have done something like this. He would have offered Ray up on a plate.

When Clay heard that his team would become family to him, he couldn’t believe that. Over the last three seasons (which I’m presuming is supposed to be three years), we’ve watched him learn that they are his brothers. He needs to rely on his team and they need to be able to count on him.

And that’s what he’s proven to Ray at this point. There was a time the two of them would butt heads, but now, they have each other’s back. Is there a way for Ray to repay Clay for this? Clay says that Ray has already done it. Ray doesn’t need to, and that’s another sign of growth.

Will this come back to bite both of them?

Let’s be honest; this letter business isn’t going away. Rebecca wasn’t happy that Clay threw everything away to take the blame for something he didn’t do. She doesn’t understand what it’s like for the SEALs.

Now she knows the truth, there’s a strong possibility she’ll talk to someone. Not only does she get Clay back at hesitating when she asked him if she was worth it, but she’ll get back at Ray for (in her eyes) ruining Clay’s career.
