Which bits of comfort food should you try this holiday season?

Tis the season to be jolly. To get in the holiday mood, viewers often revisit stories that lift their spirits, letting them forget the trials and tribulations of the world. These works are fittingly known as “comfort food.”

Such tales come in many forms, from books to films to TV shows to video games. Likewise, they can resonate for a variety of reasons. Maybe you really like the characters and are itching to see them again. Perhaps the message at the heart of the story makes you feel good inside. Alternatively, they may offer undemanding entertainment that never wears thin.

More from Entertainment

Obviously, everyone has their favorite. No one’s comfort food will hit in quite the same way with someone else. That’s part of what makes it so special. However, that doesn’t mean that it can’t be enjoyed by others. We all have different levels of comfort, after all.

That said, in no particular order, here is a collection of comfort food for you to try. These treats have brought joy to millions of people the world over. Who knows? You might find one that you come back to year after year. On the other hand, you may spit it out and forget you ever tried it. Only you can be the judge.

Before that, though, let’s look at some honorable mentions:

Superman

One of the first comic book blockbusters remains one of the best and most uplifting. Its success stems from devotion to not only the heavy drama and the silliness inherent in the source material but also the boundless, unabashed heroism of its core character.

The LEGO games

Going for almost two decades, these lighthearted platformers have enchanted players time and time again while changing relatively little. Many games nowadays tend to take themselves very seriously, but the LEGO titles have stuck with us because of their dedication to pure fun.

Part of this stems from their comedic sendups of our favorite franchises, such as Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, and the Marvel/DC superhero realms. Where the enjoyment truly lies, however, is in the spirit of creativity and exploration that fills each entry.
