TV ratings: NCIS Los Angeles down, Pandora up [Dec. 6]
A breakdown of the broadcast live TV ratings for Sunday, Dec. 6
NCIS: Los Angeles got a double bill after a Christmas special, while Pandora, Supermarket Sweep, and more aired live. Here’s a look at the live TV ratings for broadcast on Sunday, Dec. 6.
It was a mixed night for the live ratings. Despite having the NFL Overrun, CBS didn’t see upward ticks in its episodes. Part of that may be the change of time for NCIS: Los Angeles, and the episodes coming off the back of a Christmas special instead of straight off the back of 60 Minutes.
NBC won in the normal primetime programming with its Sunday Night Football. And CBS’s Holly Dolly Christmas performed well with 6.39 million viewers tuning in.
NCIS: Los Angeles ticks down
Things started with 60 Minutes dropped 31% in the audience and 40% in the demo. Would it have had a smaller knock-on effect for NCIS: Los Angeles than putting a Christmas special in the middle? That’s hard to say.
More from Ratings
- Thursday TV ratings: Grey’s Anatomy up, Walker Independence down
- Wednesday TV ratings: One Chicago mixed, Kung Fu down (November 9)
- Tuesday TV ratings: The Resident and Monarch down (November 8)
- Monday TV ratings: All American down, Quantum Leap up (Nov. 7)
- Weekend live TV ratings: Fire Country and FBI mixed
Sadly, the new episodes of Los Angeles dropped 20% in the audience and 16% in the demo for the first episode. The second episode dropped even further, but the time slot could have had a lot to cause that. After all, the episode aired at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT. Many viewers may have waited for the episode to drop on CBS All Access the following day.
It wasn’t the only show to see downward ticks, either. The Simpsons and Bless the Harts both saw ticks down, with Bless the Harts seeing the biggest at a 47% loss in the audience and a 42% loss in the demo. Will this have an effect on the renewals?
I still think Animation Domination is safe. The shows can film almost as normal during a pandemic because so much can be done at home. If the pandemic filming issues continue throughout 2021, FOX will want to keep something normal on a Sunday night.
ABC and The CW tick up in the live TV ratings
When it comes to ABC, the game shows and reality programming continue to prove successful. Everything ticked up or remained steady. Even Card Sharks ticked up, which could help to save the show.
The CW had the biggest success. Pandora was up 23% in the audience, but it may be too little too late. The audience remains one of the lowest across all CW shows, even during a pandemic year. The CW may be waiting to see how the usual fall shows perform in their January timeslots before making a decision on the current shows.
The Outpost ticked up 233% in the demo and up 37% in the audience. Granted, this is off the back of terrible TV ratings last weekend, Thanksgiving weekend. It’s rare that shows perform well during Thanksgiving weekend, which is why most networks don’t put on new episodes. The metrics are back to the previous Sunday’s levels.
This show has already been picked up for another 13 episodes, extending the third season. There’s no need to worry about the show just now.
