Comedian Billy Connolly is certainly an entertainment icon in the UK, so much so that when he shares his opinions on other writers and performers, we listen. Unfortunately, the 78-year-old Glasgow native has decided to retire from comedy because he suffers from Parkinson’s disease, but he’s still thankfully finding ways to remain in the spotlight a bit.

For instance, Connolly will be debuting a new special called It’s Been a Pleasure this holiday season, which will serve as a tribute of sorts to his career. As we previously reported, big stars such as Paul McCartney, Elton John, Lenny Henry, and even Billy’s wife Pamela Stephenson are expected to make an appearance.

While speaking about the new special with STV, according to Glasgow Live, Billy Connolly shared what he would miss the most about live performances, admitting that seeing fellow comedians and people in the audience after gigs was one of the best parts.

Connolly also shared that his favorite comedian is Chic Murray, a Scottish star who passed away in 1985. “He was the guv’nor,” he stated. “I saw him live several times. He had a bizarre style like Max Wall. They spoke about a world that didn’t really exist.”

Apart from the best of the best performers, Billy Connolly even admitted he enjoys seeing any and all comedians. He explained:

"I know that sounds like a cop-out answer but it’s true, I’ve always liked all comedians. I like guys that perform in little pubs in Govan and Partick. They’re doing the real work. I like Peter Kay. He makes it up as he goes along sometimes, too."

Peter Kay, of course, is one of our favorites. The 47-year-old British comedian is best known for his stand-up performances, along with his television shows That Peter Kay Thing and Peter Kay’s Car Share. Sadly, he’s been M.I.A. for the past few years, but we hope to see him performing once again soon.

It’s awesome to see someone as talented and famous as Billy Connolly being so positive and humble. We’re hopeful he’ll continue to do interviews as his stand-up career comes to a close.

It’s Been a Pleasure will air on December 28 at 9:30 p.m. on ITV.
