Where to stream News of the World online
News of the World is the only theatrical movie being released on Christmas Day
When it comes to Christmas Day releases, the Box Office is usually jumping. This is a time for many families to go together, spending quality time together. But only News of the World is the theatrical-only release movie happening this year.
Yes, Christmas Day will see Wonder Woman 1984 hit theaters. However, the movie is also heading to HBO Max for a month, making it possible for people to watch the movie from the safety of their homes.
News of the World, starring Tom Hanks, isn’t getting that type of release. Universal Pictures has opted for only the theaters, which will certainly limit exposure.
That being said, Netflix has the international rights everywhere except China. Those who live outside of the United States will be able to stream the movie on Netflix. It wasn’t on the list of releases for Christmas Day, though when the list was released back in November, but things could have changed.
Where will News of the World stream online?
Eventually, the Tom Hanks movie will head to a streaming service. We’ll be looking at the DVD and Blu-ray release first, which is likely to be in about three months’ time. Then we’ll be looking at a streaming release.
As it’s Universal Pictures, there’s a strong chance that HBO and HBO Max will get the movie. We’re looking at about June 2021 for that release.
That’s the way Universal Pictures worked at the height of the pandemic. There’s no need to think it will happen differently this time.
What is News of the World about?
The movie is based on the book of the same name by Paulette Jiles. Set after the American Civil War, a widowed veteran agrees to take a girl back to her aunt and uncle. This girl had been taken by the Kiowa people years earlier, and now she wishes to stay with her captors.
The two travel hundreds of miles to find a place they can call home. What will happen to the girl and her “savior” at the end of it all?
News of the World is out in theaters now.
