Good news, thriller fans! It looks like Prodigal Son is officially returning to Fox. As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the network renewed the serial killer drama for its second season, just when audiences were starting to think we might have to wait a long time to find out what happens next. Luckily, that wait is now almost over.

So let’s go over what to expect with season 2 of Prodigal Son.

Prodigal Son season 2 release date

Get ready, friends! Prodigal Son’s second season premieres on Fox on January 12, 2021.

Prodigal Son season 2 cast

The series was put together by Emmy Award-nominated executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, and written by Deception‘s Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver. The show stars The Walking Dead’s Tom Payne. Starring alongside Payne, Michael Sheen, Bellamy Young, Lou Diamond Phillips, Halston Sage, Aurora Perrineau, Frank Harts, and Keiko Agena all help bring the exciting series to life with key roles.

As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, it wasn’t just the COVID-19 production delays that kept the show’s future in limbo. Some of the wait with season 2 reportedly came down to Sheen’s unknown availability. Once the actor had fully signed on once more, the show was able to move forward with how season 2 could and would ultimately go.

And here’s what we can expect to see.

Prodigal Son season 2 synopsis

For those who’ve yet to start the series, Fox describes Prodigal Son as “a fresh take” on “a crime franchise” with “a provocative and outrageous lead character and a darkly comedic tone.” As for what to expect in season 2, we don’t know the full extent of what is to come, but do prepare yourself for a few small spoilers.

According to Business Times, everything that took place during the season 1 finale will “further complicate” Malcolm Bright’s (Tom Payne) life moving forward, in large part thanks to a huge secret he’s now keeping. In turn, audiences will get to know the main character more deeply as we watch him navigate life from where he now stands.

In season 2, Bright attempts to sort out all he just went through, especially as it pertains to his sister, and must find new ways to protect his family. As the storyline continues, Bright also begins coming to terms with his identity, and continues working with the NYPD.
