“Weird Al” Yankovic is showing off his softer, more sentimental side on social media, and people can’t get enough.

Weird Al recently revealed that he unexpectedly reconnected with a childhood crush through Twitter, reports People. And the way it all went down was and is pretty adorable, no matter how you slice it. On Facebook, the parody icon recounted the story for his following, writing:

"I was 12 years old in the 9th grade — younger than my classmates, and (as you may possibly be able to imagine) pretty awkward, shy and nerdy. And I had a crush on Patrice Y., the girl who sat directly in front of me in math class (because the seats were all arranged in alphabetical order for some arbitrary reason)."

Yankovic went on to admit that his childhood crush had no idea how he felt, explaining:

"Of course, Patrice would never in a million years have suspected that I had a crush on her, because like I explained… painfully shy. But one day I decided I would make my big move – I decided to draw a picture of her and present her with it."

In an effort to conceal his crush on his classmate to some degree, Weird Al said he drew pictures of everyone in the class and handed all of them out. However, he explained that he made sure Patrice’s hand drawn portrait was “a little better than everyone else’s,” adding, “just to be subtle about my feelings.” How sweet. He also noted that perhaps he was a bit too subtle back then, going on to joke that his love life “remained dormant” for many years after.

“Half a century later,” Weird Al experienced a blast from the past thanks to the Twitter-verse. He wrote, “I’m checking my Twitter feed and I see some woman on there talking about how she used to sit in front of me during 9th grade math class.” All these years later and now incredibly famous, the singer decided he was ready to DM his childhood crush, confirming her identity and asking if she still had the picture he drew so many moons ago.

In an incredibly touching moment, his crush revealed that she kept the picture all this time. And Patrice’s response to Weird Al was just as sweet as the story itself!
