Way to close out the year! Tom Selleck recently left one heck of a tip at Elio’s restaurant in New York City, reports People. While the amount is one of the biggest tips the eatery might’ve seen in recent memory, it’s about so much more than the money. And most notably, Tom Selleck is not the only one who has been leaving sizable tips.

According to the Blue Bloods actor, he was “honoring” co-star Donnie Wahlberg’s prompted tip challenge and was continuing to pay it forward.

According a report in USA Today, the viral campaign appears to have started on New Year’s Day in 2020. As the publication notes, the 2020 Tip Challenge started and then took off when a server named Danielle Franzoni received a $2,020 tip on a $23 bill during a shift at the Thunder Bay River Restaurant in Michigan. The receipt had a message written on it that said “Happy New Year. 2020 Tip Challenge.”

As reported by CNN, Franzoni kept the new challenge alive by leaving a $20.20 tip that same week. It was only a matter of time before many other people got wind of it. As momentum quickened, Donnie Walhberg left a $2,020 tip following a dining trip to IHOP, and the rest is history.

Recently, it was Tom Selleck who joined in. In a handwritten note to the staff, the A-list actor said, “I am honoring my friend Donnie Wahlberg’s ‘Tip Challenge’ with my sincere hope for a better 2020,” and left a $2,020 tip. Now that’s putting your money where your mouth is!

Still in the new year, there continues to be an outpouring of generosity thanks to the 2020 Tip Challenge and celebrities like Selleck and Wahlberg who are leaving these whopping tips for hardworking servers. And there’s no time like the present for all of us to start giving back with a better future in mind.

Now that it’s 2021, maybe celebrities will start leaving tips of $2,021!
