Watch Chelsea Houska explain why she’s leaving Teen Mom 2 to her cast members
Fans of the Teen Mom franchise have known Chelsea Houska for over 10 years now, as the South Dakota native entered the MTV spotlight during 16 and Pregnant season 2. Since her first introduction to reality TV, the outgoing and relatable star has gone on to become a fan-favorite of the series, and I think nearly all viewers were sad to hear that she would be quitting.
Chelsea confirmed that she would be leaving Teen Mom 2 back in November 2020, taking to Instagram to share a heartfelt message to her fans. The 29-year-old is now the mom to three kids–11-year-old Aubree, three-year-old Watson, and two-year-old Layne. As fans know, she and husband Cole DeBoer are also currently expecting another child, who Chelsea confirmed over this past summer is a baby girl.
With her family in such a strong and exciting time in their lives, why is Chelsea deciding to leave Teen Mom 2 behind? The show catapulted her to fame, and fans were shocked to hear of her exit.
During Part 1 of the Teen Mom 2 reunion, Chelsea Houska opened up about her decision while speaking virtually with her co-stars Kailyn Lowry, Leah Messer, Briana DeJesus, and Jade Cline.
Speaking candidly, Chelsea explained:
"Just watching this last season, I was getting a bad feeling in my stomach. It just feels like it’s time to close the chapter. I’m almost 30, and I’m having my fourth baby. It just feels like the right time."

It’s certainly a bittersweet moment for both Chelsea Houska and her fans. While it seems everyone is supportive of her decision–including her cast mates–Teen Mom 2 will be different moving forward, to say the least. As for her replacement, Young and Pregnant alum Ashley Jones will be joining the series.
We’re excited for this new chapter in the franchise, and wish Chelsea and Cole all the luck in their next journey in life!
