Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer is now streaming on Netflix

Netflix continues to dominate the world of true-crime. From Making a Murderer to Tiger King, Netflix seems to always have the documentary series that dominates pop culture. The popular service is about to make waves again with Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer, which is now available to stream.

Set in the summer of 1985, a killer named Richard Ramirez begins to terrorize the Los Angeles area with violent crime after violent crime. Dubbed by the media as the “Night Stalker,” Ramirez was notorious for his horrifying acts of rape and murder. Ramirez would infiltrate homes and kill victims in brutal fashion.

Night Stalker is clearly not for the faint of heart. The killer is so scary and horrific that it’s almost impossible to think someone could commit these vulgar crimes.

Tiller Russell, who directed the series, wanted to tell the story in a respectful way that honored the victims instead of glamorizing the killer. In an interview for Variety, Russell said, “You spend a long time letting people know that you’re going to honor their story and tell it in a nuanced and respectful way.”

The four-part series is essentially two shows in one. The first part of the series revolves around the police and survivors of the attacks who helped track down Ramirez. Detective Gil Carrillo and Frank Salerno both give emotional interviews that prove even the police were devastated by this killer. The end of the series focuses on Ramirez and the inner workings of a sick, twisted individual.

Below is the official synopsis and trailer.

"Beneath the sunlit glamor of 1985 LA lurks a relentless serial killer, a willing acolyte of evil. Two detectives won’t rest until they catch him."
