If We Built It Today premieres its all-new season this month

What would some of the most iconic buildings around the world look like if they were built today? That’s something If We Built It Today looks into, and there’s an all-new season premiering this month on Science Channel.

The new season premieres on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 8/7c on Science Channel, and the premiere gives us a look at a topical location. It’s all about Washington D.C.

Not only is this a location timely for Joe Biden’s inauguration, but it’s also timely for a particular monument within the area. The Lincoln Memorial is 100 years old in 2022 (the year work on it completed), and it remains one of the most visited memorials in the United States.

But what would it have looked like had it been designed today? What about the White House? The creation of all the buildings around the nation’s capital?

There is so much that goes into the creation of buildings, including the designs of the time, the politics surrounding the work, and more. How would the blueprints of Washington D.C. have changed if built today? We have a two-hour episode to let us see.

What’s to come during If We Built It Today’s new season

There is plenty to come throughout the season, focusing on some of the most iconic places around the world. One of those is Carnegie Hall, built in 1890. It remains the crown jewel of concert halls, but how would it have looked if created 130 years later?

The Parthenon is another location viewers will take a look at. One of the oldest surviving buildings from Ancient Greece, it still holds the brickwork of the past. It was certainly designed for its time, but what would people want it to be if created today?
