Firefly Lane on Netflix: How did Tully betray Kate?

Is Tully and Kate’s friendship over for good on Firefly Lane? What could have Tully done to betray Kate? Spoilers ahead!
Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke star as Tully Hart and Kate Mularkey, respectively, in Netflix’s latest drama, Firefly Lane. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Maggie Friedman and follows two best friends over the period of three decades.
Tully and Kate are inseparable and promise each other they’ll be friends for life. Tully even shares plans of buying a farm together when they’re older. It’s so sweet!
Firefly Lane, however, wastes no time hinting at a tragic end to their friendship. Initially, it’s teased that Tully has died. Fortunately, that’s not the case, but their friendship may be dead.

What did Tully do to Kate in Firefly Lane?
It is revealed that the funeral is not Tully’s. Fans of the series were very relieved to learn this, but are still heartbroken to see that Tully is dead to Kate as she no longer wants anything to do with her.
When Kate sees Tully at the funeral, she tells her “when I said I could never forgive you for what you did, what’d you think that meant?” after Tully asks if she has been punished enough. Ouch! This is no average quarrel between friends!
Tully appears to be very remorseful, but she’s also shocked that Kate still refuses to speak to her. Kate storms away and tells Tully she never wants to see her again.
Fans can’t turn to the books for an explanation as the pages do in a different direction. In the book, it truly is Kate’s funeral.
