Each and Every Day is MTV’s latest documentary set to premiere on the network, commercial-free, on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The doc is worth a watch whether you are suffering from depression or simply trying to understand more about mental illness.

From award-winning filmmaker, Alexandra Shiva, Each and Every Day touches on mental health and suicide by featuring the stories of nine participants who have survived a suicide attempt or have struggled with suicidal thoughts.

The participants share their darkest moments, thoughts, and experiences. But there is a lot of light as well as each show courage and share empowering messages about their journey to recovery.

The significance of MTV’s Each and Every Day

During the COVID-19 pandemic, suicide rates and attempts have skyrocketed. According to the CDC, a quarter of young adults have contemplated suicide during the pandemic – and this is only the number for 2020.

The time to better understand mental illness to be better equipped to help is long overdue, but Each and Every Day is the perfect first step to start.

The documentary was filmed during the pandemic via a series of video chat footage, which offers a truly intimate look at each of the participant’s stories. It’s relatable to all sufferers of depression and anxiety, which is wonderful as we all feel united and with a sense of hope.

Those who are not dealing with any mental illnesses can, and should, still watch. The documentary is engaging and teachable – there’s no better way to learn than hearing it from the source itself. I also found it more personal to hear it from victims who are still on the journey to recovery.
