5 best moments from The Equalizer Season 1 premiere
Coming on the heels of Super Bowl LV, CBS’s new crime drama The Equalizer made its much-anticipated debut. The series stars Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall aka The Equalizer, a divorced single mother and former CIA operative who wastes no time in showing the audience her combat skills and mother wit.
In this first episode, Robyn helps a teenage girl named Jewel who is framed for a homicide she witnessed and is now being pursued by the actual killers.
Here are the five best moments from The Equalizer series premiere.
The Equalizer’s takedown of bad guys
Jewel believes a stranger will provide her with a false ID. Spotting the two and sensing trouble might be at hand, Robyn follows them inside a building where other men await. Of course, she’s right and, of course, they were mistaken to think they could take her down. Robyn rescues Jewel and hands her over to friends for safekeeping until she can figure out what is going on.
Mommy moments and a little silver dress
When Robyn reluctantly takes her daughter Delilah shopping, the girl notices a shimmering silver piece of fabric, allegedly a dress, on display in the shop window. Delilah proclaims the dress is screaming “buy me.” Robyn agrees but has a different opinion on what “buy me” means.
Later on, Robyn learns Delilah has not only sneaked off to a party but is also wearing the now-stolen silver dress. Clearly going through some growing pains, Robyn takes Delilah to a detention center for girls for some scared straight lessons.
Harry the hacker and his amazing room
If you’re The Equalizer, having friends with skills is a plus. Take Harry, for instance, someone who other hackers call on for help. Harry’s hack room has a wall screen that would make the average movie theater blush.
Every visit to that basement makes one want to become a geek genius. He is also married to Robyn’s friend Melody, bar owner, and ex-sniper-turned-sniper again.
Chris Noth moments
We get the feeling that meetups with Law and Order alum Chris Noth will be interesting. As William Bishop, Robyn’s former handler now private security director, he bumps (literally) into Robyn on the street requesting a late-night meet by slipping a piece of paper in her hand.
The great waterboarding escape
When Robyn is captured by a couple of baddies, she gets waterboarded. Thankfully, not much and not for long. Who knew that when she last met with Bishop, her remark about a previous Tangiers operation was actually a signal for Bishop on where to eventually rescue her, thanks to an activated tracker.
