How many seasons of the Hulu original Ramy will there be?
By Sabrina Reed
Fans of the award-winning Hulu original Ramy are, of course, curious to know how much story there’s left to tell about a young Muslim millennial named Ramy who’s navigating life, faith, and family as best he can. Well, we have some answers.
Since the series premiered on Hulu in April 2019, the comedy-drama has drawn rave reviews for the handling of its titular character’s quest to find his place as a first-generation Egyptian-American. Ramy is the son of immigrant parents whose life and understanding of the world are sharply different from their own. It’s a reality that has left him feeling lost and seeking a place for himself to fit.
So far, the series creator and star Ramy Youssef has taken the show through two seasons showcasing Ramy’s relationship with his family, his struggles with love, and his desire to better understand his faith and what it means to him.
The series has been confirmed for a third season and, though a synopsis has yet to be released, we do know it’s slated for a ten-episode run like previous seasons. As for what’s next for the popular show after Ramy season 3, that’s only up for speculation right now. At the time of this post, only the next season has been confirmed.
What will happen in Ramy season 3?
In a July 2020 interview with Deadline, Youssef hinted at what he and the writers were cooking up with the third season and how COVID could affect their storytelling. Youssef stated:
"Story-wise, yeah, I feel like we’re just beginning. There’s so many things that we’re really excited to dig into, and we’re also excited [about] figuring out, how much of what’s happening in the world right now do we want to put in? Because obviously, everything’s changing super quickly. We want to, as a show, lead by being slow in deciding, when are we really going to get people back together? So, we’re figuring out creative ways to write. We’re taking our time, in terms of when we’re going to get near cameras rolling, just to make sure that everybody’s safe."
How will that play out in the aftermath of season two with Ramy listening to ‘How to Be a Better Muslim’? We’ll have to wait and see. We will keep you updated if season 4 is announced.
