To be honest, there’s no such thing as simpler times in American history but TV does make us long for certain eras like no one’s business. Now, whether you caught The West Wing when it aired from 1999-2006 or discovered the show years later, there’s a reason the Aaron Sorkin classic is still being talked about today.

The fictional presidency of Josiah Bartlet captured the kind of do-good political zeal that Americans wish politics actually embodied. Supported by First Lady Abbey Bartlet, Leo McGarry, Josh Lyman, Toby Ziegler, Sam Seaborn, C.J. Cregg,  Charlie Young, and Donna Moss, the Bartlet administration warmed the hearts of viewers and challenged perspectives.

Though it should also be noted that a central part of The West Wing was its focus on what it means to be a work family. To count on one another, lean on each other, and, yes, occasionally get on each other’s last nerve.

The series was also no stranger to drama, including knock-out, drag-out verbal altercations with members of Congress, tension-filled discussions on the passage of laws that could gravely affect certain populations, relationship entanglements and snafus, and secrets that could put the entire administration in jeopardy.

Where to stream The West Wing

If you’d like to revisit possibly the best presidency depicted on television, or perhaps check out the series for the first time, The West Wing is streaming on HBO Max.

All seven seasons are available to view, starting with the launch into the Bartlet administration’s second year in office to their final year before the transfer of power allows for a president to succeed President Bartlet.

The West Wing reunion special, A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote, which aired in 2020 is also available to stream on HBO Max. The special is a theatrical staging of the third season episode “Hartsfield’s Landing” which brings back Martin Sheen, Dulé Hill, Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney, Rob Lowe, and Richard Schiff to reprise their roles for the first time in 17 years.

The Friends reunion is finally about to film. dark. Next
