Emmy Award-winning series Succession is coming back for a third installment, and fans of the Roy family are on the edge of their seats waiting to see what happens next. Last we left off, Kendall (Jeremy Strong) exposed his father in a surprise move, letting everyone at the press conference know that Logan (Brian Cox) knew about all the misconduct going on at Waystar Royco over the years.

Needless to say, the family members are going to have strong reactions to Kendall’s decision, and that basically leaves his future up in the air. In case you forgot, Kendall was being blackmailed by Logan after he fled the scene of a car accident that left a man dead. Kendall was under the influence of drugs at the time, and his dad used this as leverage to keep him at the company without disruption or schemes to get to the top of Waystar.

Fortunately, we know Succession season 3 is in the works. As of right now, though, we don’t have much information beyond that. Nevertheless, here is everything that’s known currently about the next installment of the acclaimed HBO series.

Succession season 3 release date

Currently, there is no confirmed release date for Succession season 3. The first season debuted in June 2018, while the second came out in August 2019. It seems summer is a target release time for the show, though COVID-19 related delays could have pushed back the original planned schedule.

Reports have been circulating this month that the Succession crew is filming around the East Hampton and New York City areas. Considering it’s April, we don’t assume the new season will come out this summer, but there is still hope for this year.

According to a report from Harper’s Bazaar in February 2021, we should expect Succession season 3 to premiere at some point in 2021. They’re basing this on the fact that HBO Max released a teaser in December 2020 for their upcoming titles “through 2022.” Succession‘s return was part of that lineup.

Succession season 3 cast

The main cast of Succession should all be returning for the third season, which includes:

  • Jeremy Strong as Kendall Roy
  • Brian Cox as Logan Roy
  • Sarah Snook as Siobhan Roy
  • Kieran Culkin as Roman Roy
  • Matthew Macfadyen as Tom Wambsgans
  • Nicholas Braun as Greg Hirsch
  • Hiam Abbass as Marcia Roy
  • Alan Ruck as Connor Roy

While the official cast for the third installment has not been announced, we’re assuming these actors will star once again. As for newcomers, Deadline reports that Sanaa Lathan, Linda Emond, and Jihae Join have joined the cast of Succession season 3 in recurring roles.

In more recent news, Variety reported on May 3, 2021 that Alexander Skarsgard will also be in Succession season 3, playing a character named Lukas Matsson. According to the casting news, Skarsgard’s character is “a successful, confrontational tech founder and CEO.” HBO fans will be familiar with the Golden Globe winner from shows like True Blood and Big Little Lies.

Succession season 3 synopsis

As mentioned earlier, the third season is bound to begin with high tension. As described by Deadline:

"“Ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall (Jeremy Strong) at the end of Season 2, Logan Roy (Brian Cox) begins Season 3 in a perilous position. Scrambling to secure familial, political, and financial alliances, tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war.”"

We’ll keep you updated once we get more information about what’s to come.
