So, here’s the thing about Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist Season 2, Episode 11: If you’re someone who’s totally sick of the love “triangle,” you might see the title “Zoey’s Extraordinary Double Date” and want to skip it. Please don’t.

When we last saw Zoey, she was finally in a therapist’s office. Was it to deal with her grief? Of course not! She wanted to talk about her powers being to blame for ruining her life. Because of course.

Zoey’s powers are totally the reason for her never being able to figure out her own feelings and only acknowledging others’ when they’re made blatantly obvious through heart songs. She has no responsibility for her own choices, whatsoever.

Needless to say, the frustration with Zoey is real and justified. And yeah, the entire concept of Zoey and Simon going out on a double date with Rose and Max should give you warning bells. But there’s so much to look forward to that we’re recommending you watch Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist Season 2, Episode 11 live anyway.

Between the title and the episode synopsis (below), it’s very obvious that “Zoey’s Extraordinary Double Date” was meant to be all about the same old thing.

"Zoey tries to exert her energy into her relationship, but things become complicated when a double date goes awry."

But even going into this episode with a heavy sense of “ugh,” it turned out to be really, really good.

So, what makes rolling your eyes through Zoey’s terrible romantic choices worth it for yet another week? Three words: Director Mandy Moore.

We’ll talk about this a little bit more after the episode has already aired, but seeing an episode with so much dance in it actually directed by its (genius of a) choreographer has the potential to blow minds. It’s Moore’s directorial debut, but you’d never believe she’s new to this just from seeing it.

Maybe it’s because, as she told Entertainment Weekly:

"A lot of people say choreographers make for really great directors. And now being through the process, I can understand the correlation. It is really similar. You’re physicalizing something that’s on the page. And it’s what you do as a director, you try to visually represent what you read on the page."

If you’re not quite as much of a dance nerd as some of the rest of us, there are still some other highlights to watch out for. Bernadette Peters is back as Deb, and Mo exists.

Literally, that’s all you need to know about Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist to want to watch every single episode, even after all that’s gone wrong: Mo exists. Alex Newell can do no wrong.
