It’s been almost two years since a full season of HBO‘s Euphoria has graced anyone’s screen. The polarizing show, for which Zendaya won her first Emmy, is a technicolor, glitter-filled exploration of addiction, identity, abuse, and coming-of-age.

The series follows Rue (Zendaya), a teenage drug addict whose tether to life is wrapped up in her best friend Jules and the drugs she’s convinced her mother she’s not taking. But, she’s only one point on the many-sided dice on which Euphoria turns.

Jules (Hunter Schafer), a recent transplant to town, finds herself entangled in a cat-and-mouse relationship with Nate (Jacob Elordi), a jock using what he knows about Jules to manipulate his way out of his own messes. This includes accusations of abuse concerning his on-and-off-again romance with Maddy (Alexa Demie) and how far he’ll go to make sure no one touches her but him.

Kat (Barbie Ferreira) and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) are both in search of who they are though that’s often centered on men and how they see them. Lexi (Maude Apatow), Rue’s former best friend and Cassie’s sister, tends to hang in the back, observing the drama unfolding around her.

Euphoria, with its inevitable comparisons to Riverdale due to a similar preoccupation with neon and dark storytelling, has been a fan favorite since the first season. The wait for Euphoria season 2 has felt endless, but it looks like we’re starting to approach the light at the end of the tunnel.

How many seasons of Euphoria are there?

Only one season of Euphoria has aired. There are, however, two bridge episodes focused on Rue and Jules set over the Christmas break the two girls spent apart after the events of the season 1 finale.

“Trouble Don’t Last Always” focuses on Rue after she’s relapsed. Her conversation with her sponsor Ali (Colman Domingo) reveals how fragile Rue’s hold on life is and how deep her heartbreak over Jules runs.

Jules’ side of the story takes place in “F**k Anyone Who’s Not a Sea Blob.” The episode lets the audience know what she was going through in season 1 that Rue wasn’t aware of including a reunion with her mother who’d put her through conversion therapy.

Will there be a season 2 of Euphoria?

The series was renewed for a second season in 2019. Despite the two-year and counting gap between the announcement and now, anticipation for Euphoria‘s sophomore season has remained high.

How many episodes are in Euphoria season 2?

The first season unfolded over the course of eight episodes. While we don’t have a confirmed episode count, it’s likely Euphoria season 2 will follow in the same vein.

When is Euphoria season 2 filming?

Season 2 of the series is currently in production. Zendaya posted several stories on her Instagram May 5 which included a picture of Angus Cloud dressed as Rue’s drug dealer and friend Fez. The actor touched on how much she’d missed being on set with the cast and crew of the show.

Euphoria season 2 release date

We don’t have a confirmed release date for Euphoria season 2, not even a release season, but with filming underway, we’re happy to note that fans should be seeing the show’s return soon. We’re thinking a 2022 release could be in the cards, but we’re still keeping hope alive for an end-of-the-year drop in 2021.
