Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 is officially happening, but it comes with the sad news that it will be the last. Here’s what we know so far.

The good news is Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 happening. We’ve been waiting a long time for the eighth season, and it wasn’t originally intended to be the last. However, things changed during the summer of 2020.

Four episodes of the eighth season had been written when the writers decided to change the plan. With the Black Lives Matter protests, the writers realized they had a duty to the public. All four episodes were scrapped and the writers went back to the drawing board.

That has led to the delays. And it led to NBC making the decision to make Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 the last. We still don’t have an exact premiere date, but here’s what we do know so far. There will be updates as they happen.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 premiere date

While there isn’t a premiere date just yet, we do know that it isn’t arriving during the 2020–2021 TV scheduled. When NBC decided to make the season the last of the show, it came with the news that the season wouldn’t air until the 2021–2022 schedule. It will also only have 10 episodes.

We’re looking at the fall for this show. The show will have had time to film episodes by then, even with the pandemic still ongoing.

Update (May 20, 2021): According to DeadlineBrooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 will premiere on Thursday, Aug. 12 at 8/7c. It will air back-to-back episodes throughout its season.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 cast

We’re looking at the following cast members to return:

  • Andy Samberg as Jake Peralta
  • Stephanie Beatriz as Rosa Diaz
  • Terry Crews as Terry Jeffords
  • Melissa Fumero as Amy Santiago
  • Joe Lo Truglio as Charles Boyle
  • Andre Braugher as Raymond Holt
  • Dirk Blocker as Michael Hitchcock
  • Joel McKinnon Miller as Norm Scully

There is hope that some of the guest stars from previous seasons will show up throughout the 10 episodes, especially Kevin and The Pontiac Bandit. We also hope to see Chelsea Peretti appear as Gina Linetti for at least the series finale.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 synopsis

We don’t have a synopsis, but it’s probable that the season will include the topic of systemic racism and police brutality. The show has covered this in the past with Terry Crews’s character, Terry Jeffords, being stopped while in his neighborhood when searching for one of his daughter’s toys. He knew he was a victim of racial profiling.

Other than that, it’s hard to say what the season will include. We’re hoping for another Halloween Heist.
