Everything we love about the return of Siesta Key
By Aedan Juvet
The MTV reality series Siesta Key is back for another season of Florida-centric drama, and despite the surface-level relationships, there’s plenty of fun to be had. Now that Siesta Key is a few episodes into the fourth season, we’re getting to see a more comfortable level of madness with the return of the Laguna Beach-Esque core group for our viewing pleasure.
As always, we’re back to follow the consistently candid lead Juliette, and with each passing season, there’s reason to believe MTV has delivered an authentic hidden gem. After going out with quite a bang at the zoom call reunion, what does the fourth season have to offer?
Dueling swimsuit lines
Yes, you read that correctly. Dueling swimsuit lines. By the time the fourth season kicked off, Juliette was making progress with samples for her swimsuit line, logo designs, a friend who wanted to follow her aspirations. Her now-former friend has pushed her line into production quicker, causing the two to engage in even more conflict.
Juliette wants to note that Kelsey has found her “passion” for swimwear as a convenience, and Kelsey believes that Juliette isn’t deserving of a line that may or may not be backed by her wealthy boyfriend. Are there bigger problems to address? Obviously. But this is Siesta Key, so faulty friendships and respect for swimwear can create quite a recipe for disaster.
Outlandishly exuberant gifts destined to spark drama
One thing you can always expect from the wealthier cast members of Siesta Key is an appreciation for gifts. In the past, Chloe has received a hush gift to cover up an affair, and now in the new season, a gift is in the center of a potentially bigger problem.
Juliette was initially thrilled at the idea of a $10,000 piece of art from her boyfriend Sam, but of course, there’s always a catch. The artist happens to be a new addition to the series and “friend” of Sam’s, who we’re led to believe has feelings for the new it-guy of the series.
When revealing the artwork to Juliette, we see that the woman in the painting is essentially a blonde version of the artist herself. If there’s ever been a gift that triggers instant hilarity, it’s painting yourself over your crush’s current girlfriend for a hefty paycheck. New cast member alert perhaps?
Everyone is “growing” on Siesta Key
A timeless tradition in reality TV always comes from everyone opting to prove they’ve grown. In the months that see a break between seasons, it’s very consistent to suggest that time has given cast members of any given series to drastically change.
On this season of Siesta Key, that’s exactly the opener. Everyone is pursuing careers, and thinking about the future, most notably for Brandon who is in ways, held accountable by reality television to set a better example for his newborn child.
In a more comedic avenue, Chloe has claimed to have turned a new leaf, opting to leave her dramatic past behind in favor of living a drama-free life. Within minutes, the resident gossip left her new mantra behind to be the Chloe we’ve known for three seasons. Even though we’re supposedly going to see a more mature side of Siesta Key, I think it’s safe to say a lot of us watch it for the messiness anyway, right?
Siesta Key airs Tuesday nights on MTV.
