The highly anticipated Ryan Reynolds comedy is finally coming to theaters. What is the Free Guy movie about, who stars in it, and where can you stream it from home? Here are all the details you need to know.
After being delayed for so long, just like many other movies, the comedy Free Guy is finally coming to theaters. The movie is in theaters on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021, with showtimes available as early as Thursday night (Aug. 12).
Is it only playing in theaters or will it also be available on a streaming service? Many movies, just to finally hit the screen, are getting a theater and streaming release at the same time. That or a streaming release a few weeks after the movie hits the big screen.
A Quiet Place 2, for example, released as a movie theater-exclusive, but it became available to stream after just a couple of weeks. And The Conjuring 3 went to theaters and HBO Max at the same time. Needless to say, these are confusing times for movie releases. But we’re here to help!

Free Guy synopsis: What is the movie about?
The action-comedy follows the lives of characters living in a video game called Free City. Guy (Reynolds) isn’t a main character in the game, but he is the one we follow in the movie. Guy is a non-player character who suddenly becomes aware of what he is and the world around him.
When Guy learns that the game developers are shutting down the game, it’s a race against the clock to become the hero the game needs.

Along with Ryan Reynolds as Guy, the movie also stars Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Taika Waititi, Joe Keery, and others. Hugh Jackman, Dwayne Johnson, John Krasinski, and more will have cameos in the movie.

Where to watch Free Guy movie online
The movie is exclusively playing in theaters, so to see it you’ll have to find a big screen near you playing the movie. Once its theatrical run is over, you can find the movie on streaming and VOD.
As for which streaming service it’ll go to, it hasn’t been announced just yet, but 20th Century Studios movies typically go to Hulu. Disney did purchase rights, though, so we can’t say for sure.
