NCIS fans may be prepared to see less of Mark Harmon in Season 19. For a while, it was a question of whether Harmon was planning on returning to the hit series once his contract expired after Season 18. The season even ended with Agent Gibbs in peril after an afternoon of boating.

It was recently confirmed he would be returning alongside the show for the 2021-2022 television season. But now, we know that he may not have as much of a presence as we normally have seen for almost two decades.

TVLine reported that Harmon’s run for Season 19 would just be “in the low single digits,” according to a source.

In a way, we could already see this was coming. Season 18 saw Gibbs suspended from NCIS after assaulting a suspect in a case. During the last episodes of the season, he appeared to be considering the idea of not returning to the field.

Mark Harmon will only appear in a handful of episodes for Season 19

The show also has already seen several casting changes. Not only did the show kill off a recurring character, Emily Fornell, and say goodbye to Jack Sloane, they but surprised fans in the last episode with the exit of Agent Ellie Bishop. Actress Emily Wickersham confirmed after the episode aired she would be leaving the series.

Despite the limited role for Gibbs, there will be a couple new faces that will turn up. Actress Katrina Law came onboard at the end of Season 18 for an arc that would possibly see her join the team.

Variety also reported that actor Gary Cole would be joining Season 19 in a major role that has been kept under wraps. Does this mean he is related to the changes happening with Gibbs?

We can only assume and come up with many theories about what Gibbs’s role will be on NCIS, especially with limited appearances. Will they all be grouped together or spread out?
