After being poisoned in the first season finale, what’s next for Angela Wheatley in Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 2?

Nothing leaves viewers desperate for a new season of television like a cliffhanger, and that’s definitely where Law & Order: Organized Crime left off after its all-too-short first season. One of the key characters who left us with the most unanswered questions is none other than Angela Wheatley (Tamara Taylor).

Angela remains at the center of the series’s biggest plot: We learned she ordered the hit on Kathy Stabler. Her excuse? She wanted Elliot to suffer as much as she had after she was told Detective Stabler (Christopher Meloni) was responsible for her son’s death.

Wheatley tried to play the innocent, grieving mother who didn’t actually intend for anyone to be murdered…Buuuut her ex-husband, Richard, claimed to have the receipts to prove otherwise. All of this left us wondering whether Angela was a villain, a victim, or some interesting combination of both. By the time Season 1 ended, we were even less certain than ever before.

What will happen to Angela in Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 2

Probably the most obvious question is whether or not Angela is even going to live. In the closing moments of the Season 1 finale, she was barely hanging on to life—and coming face-to-face with the one true love of Elliot Stabler’s life for the first time.

Imagine being poisoned, abducted from your hospital room by a traitor cop, and poisoned again, then having probably the last person you wanted to meet be the one to save you. We’d say we feel bad for her, but well. Nobody compares to Olivia Benson, especially when it comes to people who should be kissing her El.

Let’s assume, for a minute, that Angela survives. Is she going to continue cooperating with the Organized Crime task force, or will the near-death experience have been enough to convince her to switch her loyalty back to Richard? Was she ever loyal to anyone but herself?

After Benson and Stabler saved Angela, will she be dumb enough to continue trying to come between them? Or will seeing that dynamic in action, even when at death’s door, be enough to make her realize she never had a chance?

It will certainly be interesting to see Angela and Olivia interact, one way or another. Benson was always close with the Stabler family (gee, can’t fathom why), so she can’t exactly be a fan of the woman who caused so much pain for Elliot and the kids. (Thank you for your service in walking toward the light instead of sticking around, though, Kathy…)

Personal entanglements aside, Liv’s an NYPD Captain who’s been through it all. So, criminals beware. And yeah, that warning definitely goes out to Angela Wheatley—even if she lives.

On the other hand, if Angela dies, what effect will that have on the case against Richard? Without the “star” witness, will he go free? And if he does, how much more messed up is Elliot going to be?

It’s so interesting how much the future of this case and this series rests on one character’s survival…or lack thereof. Knowing how many twists and turns the whole plot took in Season 1, we probably haven’t even begun to explore the possibilities.

There are many reasons this show is “Everyone’s New Obsession,” and trying to figure out Angela’s deal has definitely been a part of that. Now, we just have to wait and see what happens to her. (But seriously, how hilarious would it be if yet another person potentially standing in the way of EO just kind of…dropped dead?)
