How many Purge movies are there? Will there be more?

The Forever Purge is now playing in theaters and it’s not the first (or last?) in the franchise. How many Purge movies are there and will there be more? Here’s what we know!

The first movie in the series, The Purge, premiered on June 7, 2013. Ever since, a new movie in the franchise has premiered in July (with the exception of the first). In total, there are five movies and one television show based on the film’s concept, titled, The Purge.

If you’re not familiar with the movies, the story takes place in America and follows the events of an annual Purge, a night in which all crime is legal. Yes, all crime, including murder.

Citizens are allowed to break the law, kill, and steal to their heart’s content, with no consequences — but only during this one night a year. The logic is that this will help lower crime rates the rest of the year.

It’s an interesting concept that certainly captured a lot of attention. And, by the look of things, fans haven’t grown bored of it. It helps that the franchise continues to install new ideas. Though, if you ask me, each movie is just more of the same. On the bright side, if you enjoyed the first movie, there’s plenty more where that came from!

The latest in the franchise, The Forever Purge, follows a group that plan to continue to Purge for longer than one night. The film was supposed to be released earlier, but the date was pushed back due to the pandemic.

Will there be another Purge movie?

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but, according to Screen Rant, producer Jason Blum doesn’t plan to stop after The Forever Purge. However, Blum won’t make another movie if director and screenwriter James DeMonaco is not on board. They are working on a script, but it all depends on the success of the latest movie.
