Box Office Earnings: American Made may have been created with a budget of $50 million, but for War of the Worlds, production spared no expense! The budget was  reportedly a whopping $132 million. But it more than paid off! Worldwide, War of the Worlds gathered $591.7 million, $234.2 million of it domestically. Gotta love aliens.

Critical Acclaim: On Rotten Tomatoes, War of the Worlds sits with a Fresh score of 74%, which is not bad at all for the genre. The movie was nominated for three Academy Awards — Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, and Sound Editing. It also received six nominates at the Saturn Awards and Dakota Fanningwon Best Performance by a Younger Actor

About the Role: Tom Cruise stars as Roy Ferrier, father to Rachel (Dakota Fanning) and rebel Robbie (Justin Chatwin). War of the Worlds is a contemporary retelling of H.G. Wells’ classic of the same name. Extra-terrestrial beings have crashed on Earth, the movie follows Roy and his family as they deal with many threats struggling to make it through alive.
