Why did Will Smith leave The Suicide Squad?

When you go see The Suicide Squad in theaters, you may see a main character is noticeably absent. Why did actor Will Smith leave the movie?

The Suicide Squad is in theaters and HBO Max on Aug. 5, 2021. The anticipated sequel from David Ayer’s 2017 Suicide Squad sees the return of Harley Quinn and her Suicide crew, minus one.

Will Smith starred as Deadshot in the 2017 movie, and had incredibly chemistry with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. The movie may have had its flaws, but Smith and Robbie’s roles were highlights.

Needless to say, fans were disappointed when they learned that Will Smith would not be reprising his role as Deadshot in the James Gunn movie. Here’s what we know about Smith’s decision.

Whey is Will Smith not in The Suicide Squad?

According to CinemaBlend, producer Peter Safran shared some details about Will Smith’s absence. Smith told the source:

“We discussed it. I think the will of it all was really more of a schedule thing than anything else.”

Safran shares that they had to shoot in September because Gunn would soon be back to film Guardians, so it was a matter of not getting the timing right for everyone. Will was not available.

In the end, Safran is happy about how things work out, sharing that, without Will, it helps this new movie “separate it from the first movie, I think, in a greater fashion.”

Do you agree, or would you have loved to see Smith reprise his role?
