From sci-fi to romance and horror, here are the 7 best new anime to stream on Netflix right now.

The last year has been a rough one but it’s also been the year animation shined bright and took center stage in entertainment. We’re also seeing an uptick in Japanese animation popularity on streaming giants and, quite frankly, we’re the better for it. And there are some great new anime to stream on Netflix right now.

Over the last few years, the U.S. Netflix has accumulated an incredible amount of anime, and not just the classics that many of us remember from Toonami, Disney XD and Nicktoons. Netflix has come a long way since its days of revisiting early 2000s anime from Naruto and Bleach to Inuyasha and Sailor Moon.

Now, they’re at the forefront of anime distribution and have become one of the go-to places to see the best new anime, either released only a couple months prior in Japan or releasing for the first time ever.

And it goes without saying that the genre of these anime varies widely–from sci-fi to romance and even horror. But Netflix has also provided a hub for countries like China, the Philippines, and even studios in the U.S. to produce their own anime series. It’s a whole new world for anime fans, so we’ve put together a list of the last six months’ 7 best new anime to stream on Netflix right now.

Best new anime on Netflix: No. 1 Dota: Dragon’s Blood

Directed by Park So Young, Dota: Dragon’s Blood follows the story of Dragon Knight Davion whose purpose is to hunt dragons in an effort to make the world a safer place. But when an elder dragon merges his soul with Davion during battle, Davion finds himself on a new journey to save the very creatures he fought to destroy and stop a demon named Terrorblade who wants to kill dragons and collect their souls.

Set in an epic fantasy world with animation that combines Western and Japanese styles, this Netflix anime is based on the 2013 video game Dota 2, developed and published by Valve. The show, produced by Studio Mir, premiered on Netflix in March and a second season is currently underway.
