Is Candyman on Disney Plus?

More than a year after it was originally scheduled to hit theaters, Candyman has finally arrived in theaters for movie fans’ enjoyment and is quickly creating waves at the box office.

Directed by Nia DaCosta and starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, the newest addition to the franchise is described as a “spiritual sequel” to the 1992 offering featuring a return to the Chicago neighborhood where the story first began.

The film is currently bringing fans in at the box office but during these uncertain times, it’s become common for moviegoers to instead turn to their favorite streaming services as an alternative for viewing. Is Candyman coming to Disney Plus?

While Disney Plus has become home to several incredible films already this year, the streaming powerhouse will not be adding Candyman to its streaming catalog.

Why isn’t Candyman on Disney Plus?

Well, there are actually a few reasons behind why the Nia DaCosta-directed film won’t be coming to Disney Plus. First, we have the fact that the movie is an R-rated horror film and Disney Plus has prided itself on being a more family-friendly service in avoiding content with an R-rating.

The other major holdup lies in the fact that the film is from Universal Studios and Universal Studios does not currently have a streaming deal with Disney Plus.

Where to stream Candyman?

At this time, Candyman is not streaming on any prominent streaming service as the film has instead opened exclusively in theaters. Because Universal does not have a streaming platform, it’s unclear where the movie might eventually land but you should be able to stream the film on Video on Demand and rent it via Amazon Prime upon its release.
