Great balls of fire! Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the beloved film Top Gun, is finally coming to theaters after multiple delays. Fans of the 80s film will meet a whole new class of pilots in this highly-anticipated sequel, but they’ll also recognize a few very popular faces because Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer will both be returning.

Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is back, and we’ll see him on the other side of the aviation classroom. Described as someone who has kept “pushing the envelope” throughout his career as one of the Navy’s best pilots, he’ll come into a role where he’s training a new class for a high-stakes mission.

The film has teased that one of the new pilots in Top Gun: Maverick is the son of Mitchell’s former R.I.O and friend, Nick “Goose” Bradshaw. And when the two of them meet, Maverick will have to revisit his past from when he was a graduate.

We’re sure the story will be filled with drama and action, but we’re also looking forward to some comedic moments. Maverick wasn’t exactly the most well-behaved student, and we’re looking forward to seeing how he may get a taste of what it’s like to train and lead some of the new troublemakers.

When is the Top Gun: Maverick movie release date? Will Top Gun 2 stream online?

After several delays and changes in it’s premiere date, Top Gun: Maverick will now be coming to theaters on May 27, 2022. Likely to be a hit in the box office, the movie will be released just in time for the Memorial Day weekend holiday in the United States.

No information has been released yet about whether Top Gun: Maverick will also be available to stream online, but it could potentially come to the Paramount+ streaming site later in 2022. This means Top Gun: Maverick will premiere almost a year after it was originally slated for release.

Tom Cruise is reprising his role as Lt. Pete Mitchell aka Maverick in the film along with Val Kilmer, who is returning as Iceman. They’re joined by Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Jean Louisa Kelly and Raymond Lee. New Top Gun pilots coming on board for the film include Miles Teller as Rooster, Manny Jacinto as Fritz, Glen Powell as Hangman, Monica Barbaro as Phoenix, Danny Ramirez as Fanboy, Jay Ellis as Payback, Charles Parnell as Warlock, Greg Tarzan Davis as Coyote, and Lewis Pullman as Bob.
