The Many Saints of Newark has yet to release, and still, David Chase is looking ahead to what’s next for the story of Tony Soprano. The Sopranos creator has been giving interviews left and right in preparation for the new movie premiere, and of course, is getting questions about potential more films.

In case you’re not caught up, the new movie produced by New Line Cinema will serve as a prequel story for Tony Soprano, with the iconic character being played by the son of the late and great actor James Gandolfini. Along with Michael Gandolfini, The Many Saints of Newark stars Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Ray Liotta, Vera Farmiga, and a handful of other familiar faces. The film is set to explore Tony’s relationship with his uncle Dickie Moltisanti (Nivola) and how he influences his formative years.

When Chase was catching up with Deadline this week, he confirmed he would be interested in making another film exploring Tony’s coming of age under one condition — if executive producer and writer Terence Winter was also on board. The publication then spoke with Winter to get his take, who said about the possibility: “The idea of doing another one, and doing it with David, I’d be in in a heartbeat. Absolutely.”

Well, there you have it. Two of the biggest players in The Sopranos franchise are willing to return for another project, so fingers crossed they’re able to make that happen. This is hardly the first time we’ve heard that Chase is open to revisiting the New Jersey crime family.

In an interview last month, The Many Saints of Newark director Alan Taylor revealed: “David said something that sounded like he was talking about [making more content]. I said, ‘Wait wait, are you talking about a sequel?’ And he said, ‘Maybe.’“

We’ll have to wait until the new movie premieres to see what another prequel film could look like, but we know fans would love to see more from this story. The Many Saints of Newark releases in theaters and on HBO Max on Oct. 1, 2021.
