You should definitely watch these Netflix anime, just not with your parents

It’s a story all anime fans know well. You’ve been watching anime for years, maybe even a decade or two, and your parents don’t quite understand the appeal. Maybe it’s family movie night and you decide now’s the time to show them anime shows aren’t just either cartoons for kids or over-sexualized Hentai content, that there are great, quality stories out there and Netflix has a plethora of options. But, there are some Netflix anime you should not watch with your parents.

Sometimes a two-sentence description is all you need. Sometimes, it’s really not. And we’ve all done it. We’ve read the Netflix series descriptions and thought, “That seems like a great watch,” not bothering to do a, possibly, very necessary Wikipedia check to know what we’re actually getting into.

And, with anime, double-checking is always a good idea. Because while the show might still have substance to a long-time anime fan who understands the genre often delves into, say, “interesting” territories, anime newbies, especially parents, are not going to have the same takeaway.

While there are some obviously dicey titles, such as Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, there are others that may seem like either culinary fun, thrilling thrillers, or Zootopia with a twist. We assure you, they’re not. To help our fellow anime fans out, here are five Netflix anime you should not watch with your parents.
