5 canceled The CW shows we wish were coming back this fall (2021)
One thing The CW does is offer final season orders to most of its shows now. That doesn’t stop us wishing these canceled CW shows were back this fall.
Once a series has made it past one season, The CW tends to offer final season orders. This has been the case since The Vampire Diaries, with some shows coming to an end because The CW wants it and others coming to an end because the shows want it.
It does make it harder to say that we want “canceled” CW shows to come back. Are they really canceled when they’ve been given the chance to come to an end? However, ending doesn’t mean we don’t miss them.
There are some excellent shows coming back to The CW throughout the fall season. We’re also looking forward to the new shows ordered. However, we do wish these five shows were making their returns in fall 2021.
5 CW shows we wish were on the fall 2021 schedule
This list is in alphabetical order. It’s hard to rank different genres, especially when the shows came to an end rather than being abruptly canceled.
Black Lightning
There are a few superhero shows that stand out more than others. Black Lightning initially started outside the Arrowverse, although eventually came into it. Starting outside it certainly helped give Black Lightning a chance to stand out for itself.
The series was about family. It was about figuring out powers, and even deciding whether someone wants to be a superhero or not. Then there was the focus on what makes bad guys into bad guys.
While the series did get the chance to wrap up storylines, it was clear there were more stories to come. We’d love to see it continue on The CW.
iZombie
A few years ago, The CW brought us a fun zombie series. iZombie was like nothing seen before, and there’s no doubt it proved that Rose McIver was an actress to look out for.
The series brought heart within the comedy. It was part comedy and part crime series, all while mixing in the zombie element. The multiple genres worked together well, and I’m still salty that the series clearly had more stories to tell and didn’t get that chance. While it got a final season order, it wasn’t the show’s decision to end.
Katy Keene
As Riverdale continues, there was a show in the same universe that didn’t get a fair chance. Katy Keene was canceled after one season. Sure, we get to see Lucy Hale spread her wings on Ragdoll soon, but we wanted to see her continue as Katy for much longer.
The series was light and entertaining. It stepped outside the darkness and absurdity of the Riverdale universe, bringing us something fun. We were invested in Katy’s dream and her future, and now we have no idea what was going to happen.
Supergirl
There are a lot of superhero shows on The CW, so it’s not surprising that some had to end. Supergirl was one of them, but it really shouldn’t have been. Sure, the live ratings weren’t as good as the likes of The Flash, but Supergirl offered us a strong female character in the lead to follow.
In fact, most of the best characters on the series were female. Just look at Alex Danvers and Lena Luther. We needed to see more of this friendship continue, especially after the events of Season 5. As much as we adore that Supergirl got the chance to wrap up storylines, it would have been a perfect fall show combined with Batwoman.
Supernatural
Finally, we have the longest-running of all CW shows, Supernatural. Now yes, this series came to an end because the actors wanted to bring it to an end. That doesn’t stop us wishing that it could have been part of the fall 2021 schedule. We’d just gotten so used to this horror series.
Supernatural was more than just a show. It pulled in multiple generations and focused on family as well as the horror. It’s one of the most quotable shows ever, and we’re still not convinced by that final season, especially the series finale.

Most of the shows above are on Netflix except Katy Keene, which is on HBO Max.
