Why A Bronx Tale is my favorite movie ever set in New York City

Last Thursday, I was sitting in my living room with a group of friends watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine, when my homeboy, Squid, posed the question “What’s your favorite TV show based in New York City?” Of course the usual names were tossed around by everyone in the room. Shows like Sex and the City, Seinfeld, Living Single, and NYPD Blue all made the list. On the next commercial break, Squid posed another intriguing question, “What’s your favorite movie based in New York City?” I’m sure you know there were too many answers to list here. However, that conversation led me to really ponder the question. Later that evening, I came to a conclusion: A Bronx Tale is my favorite movie ever set in New York City.

A Bronx Tale is a movie full of quotes that can easily be applied to everyday life

While there are many reasons I love this classic film, one of them is the incredible dialogue, great narration, and memorable quotes that it provides. While watching the film at home, it seems that every five minutes there’s another moment worth rewinding and listening to again.

Every time I get together with the guys to play cards, inevitably there are movie quotes being thrown around as punch lines to silly jokes. I can’t remember the last time we got together and something from A Bronx Tale wasn’t used at least once.

The day after the conversation with Squid and the guys led me to contemplate my appreciation for this film, I decided to watch it again. Let’s take a journey through my favorite moments from this movie, their relevance to the story, and why these words have stuck with me to this day.
