When Practical Magic debuted in 1998 it had a decent but relatively mild showing at the box office. It wasn’t until the movie came out on home video that it really developed a cult following, and now it’s a beloved classic movie that’s perfect for Halloween season. So where is Practical Magic streaming and how can you watch it?

Practical Magic is available to stream on the HBO Max platform. If you’re not an HBO Max subscriber you can buy the movie on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Google Play, Vudu and YouTube.

Practical Magic is the story of sisters Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian (Nicole Kidman). They’re descendents of a long line of witches. Sally has two daughters and after the death of her husband she moves back in with her aunts (played to perfection by Dianne Weist and Stockard Channing). She’s a great mom who rarely thinks about the power that lies at her fingertips.

When Gillian returns to the family home following a nasty breakup with her boyfriend (Goran Visnjic), Gillian’s free-spirited way of life breathes new energy into the home. But when the boyfriend ends up dead things start to go sideways. When a detective (Aidan Quinn) comes to town searching for the missing boyfriend, it looks like things might get worse until a little magic intervenes.

As cute movies go, Practical Magic is close to the top. It has a wide appeal for female audiences of any age, and it also fell into the late 1990’s trend of women dancing around their houses. (If you didn’t know that was a thing, it absolutely was…)
