Riverdale season 5 is the longest airing season in the show’s history. It’s had to be considering the effect the pandemic has had on The CW‘s programming schedule for the 2020-2021 television year. Season 5 is also the one that’s seen the most change as the audience was thrust seven years into the characters’ lives as adults after their high school graduation.

However, the fifth season’s prolonged time on air wasn’t coupled with a larger episode order. If you’ve been waiting to binge the show when it hits Netflix in October, you’re not in for an extend watch. The season isn’t 22 episodes, the highest Riverdale has gone thus far in its episode count.

In fact, the show didn’t even crack the 20s in season 5. So, it is possible to binge the entire season in the month before season 6 makes its premiere on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 9 p.m. ET after The Flash. But it’ll be a tight fit.

Like the show’s fourth season, Riverdale season 5 is 19 episodes long. The story kicks back in right where it left off, so the first three episodes serve as a conclusion to season 4 and then the series launches into the time jump.

From there, the season works through what each character has gone through over the past seven years from heartbreak to trauma with a bit of romance, music, and mystery thrown in so things don’t get too grimdark. As is typical for this series, season 5 is a rollercoaster ride.

Riverdale season 5 release date on Netflix

If season 5 isn’t preempted, it should land on Netflix by Thursday, Oct. 14. That leaves fans a little over a month to binge the latest season before season 6 drops viewers into a five episode crossover that’s slated to be a battle between good and evil.
