When Saturday Night Live kicks off its 47th season this weekend, the show will go on without one of its longtime repertory players.

Ahead of the Saturday Night Live season 47 premiere, veteran cast member Beck Bennett has announced he will not be returning for the show’s upcoming season. The news comes days before the season premiere and was news few saw coming.

In confirming the news on Instagram, Bennett thanked his SNL family for eight incredible years with the show, though his post did not confirm the exact reason behind his departure.

"“Love you, SNL. Gonna miss you so much. Thank you for eight years of remarkable people and incredible experiences that completely changed my life. I had so much fun,” Bennett wrote."

When did Beck Bennett join SNL?

Beck Bennett first joined the cast of SNL in 2013 as a featured player in season 39. Two seasons later, Bennett was promoted to repertory player for season 41 and has been a key part of the show’s ensemble since before departing ahead of season 47.

In addition to the departure of Beck Bennett, Lauren Holt will also be departing the cast and will not return as a featured player in season 47. The good news is that Holt and Bennett appear to be the only actors leaving the series this season, with the rest of the cast all set to return in some capacity this season.

The Saturday Night Live season 47 cast will consist of Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong and Pete Davidson, Aidy Bryant, Michael Che, Pete Davidson, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner, Colin Jost, Kate McKinnon, Alex Moffat, Kyle Mooney, Ego Nwodim, Chris Redd, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson, Melissa Villaseñor, Andrew Dismukes and Punkie Johnson.

It has also been revealed that Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang have been promoted to repertory players for season 47, while Aristotle Athari, James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman have joined the cast as new featured players.

When does Saturday Night Live return?

SNL will kick off its 47th season on Saturday, Oct. 2 with host Owen Wilson and musical guest Kacey Musgraves.
