When it comes to cast shakeups, few shows have weathered as many cast shakeups as Grey’s Anatomy has over the course of the show’s seventeen seasons.

Over the course of its seventeen seasons on ABC, Grey’s Anatomy has featured some of the biggest and most shocking cast shakeups in primetime television. Of course, to balance out its cast departures, the show has become known to introduce new characters each season to build up its ensemble by injecting fresh blood into the cast.

Season 18 is no different with the season marking the end of the road for several beloved cast members, while also bringing familiar faces from past seasons back into the mix.

Wondering who will and won’t be back for season 18 of Grey’s Anatomy? Let’s take a look at the season’s cast including which actors are confirmed to have departed the show as well as which familiar faces from past seasons will be scrubbing in once again as part of the upcoming season’s cast.

Who’s leaving Grey’s Anatomy?

When Grey’s Anatomy returns this September, it will do so without a few beloved members of the cast. Of course, the biggest casting shakeup came with the departure of Jesse Williams, who has exited the series after 12 seasons of playing Dr. Jackson Avery.

Additionally, Greg Germann has stepped away from the show after four seasons as Dr. Tom Koracick, with his character’s exit storyline connected to Jackson’s departure with both characters leaving for Boston to join focus attention on the Catherine Fox Foundation.

Season 18 will also be without Giacomo Gianniotti, whose character Dr. Andrew DeLuca met an untimely end in season 17.

Who’s new to the Grey’s Anatomy cast?

The one major new cast addition to the season 18 cast is actor Peter Gallager, who is joining the cast in season 18 as Dr. Alan Hamilton. Additionally, there are a few familiar faces checking into Grey Slone Memorial this fall for Grey’s Anatomy season 18.

Of course, the biggest casting news heading into season 18 is the return of Kate Walsh as Dr. Addison Montgomery. While the details of her return remain unknown, this will mark the first time Walsh will be returning to Grey’s Anatomy since 2012.

Also returning in season 18 will are Abigail Spencer as Dr. Megan Hunt and Kate Burton as Dr. Ellis Grey, with details for both actresses’ return once again remaining unclear.

Grey’s Anatomy season 18 cast: Who’s back for season 18?

While we said goodbye to several doctors in season 17, the good news is that many of your favorite cast members will be back for season 18! Among those confirmed to return for Grey’s Anatomy season 18 are original cast members Ellen Pompeo (Dr. Meredith Grey), Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey) and. James Pickens Jr (Dr. Richard Webber).

Also set to return for season 18 are Jake Borelli (Dr. Levi Schmitt), Chris Carmack (Dr. Atticus “Link” Lincoln), Richard Flood (Dr. Cormac Hayes), Anthony Hill (Dr. Winston Ndugu), Camilla Luddington (Dr. Jo Wilson), Kelly McCreary (Dr. Maggie Pierce), Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt), Kim Raver (Dr. Teddy Altman) and Caterina Scorsone (Dr. Amelia Shepherd).
