Best Reality shows: Extinct or Alive

Network it airs on: Animal Planet

Years it’s aired: 2018 to present

What it’s about: Forrest Galante takes viewers on trips around the world to look out for animals that have been considered extinct. It turns out that not all these creatures may be extinct after all. They’ve just become extremely good at hiding from the humans to preserve their species.

Galante takes the time to look at the evidence. He spends time looking for signs of proof that the animals are still alive. His work is to help prevent those considered extinct from going extinct, which includes tracking and protecting once he finds them.

Why it’s one of the greatest: There’s so much about the world that we think we know. We actually know very little about the world around us, about the way animals think and adapt. Galante helps to offer us just a small insight into the world of the animals.

We get this chance to see that what we think we know isn’t true. Even scientists and researchers can get it wrong, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s about learning and adapting. It’s about growing as people to help preserve the creatures that we thought we’d hunted or forced into extinction over the centuries.
