For Sopranos fans, The Many Saints of Newark is the movie they have been anticipating since early 2018, when New Line Cinema announced they had acquired the rights to a Sopranos prequel.

Set in Newark during the ’60’s race riots, the film explores the war between the cultural mobs of that era. The film is also reportedly narrated by Sopranos feature character, Christopher Moltisanti.

The film will star Michael Gandolfini playing his late father’s character Tony Soprano as an adolescent. The film’s wider cast is impressive, featuring: Alessandro Nivola, Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, Vera Fermiga, Billy Magnussen among others.

The highly anticipated movie was originally supposed to premiere in March of 2021, but was delayed due to COVID. The film will now premiere on October 1. The Many Saints of Newark marks the first time in 14 years fans have been given new Sopranos content.
