The twists keep coming in Our Kind of People! In the last episode, “My Mother, Myself,” Angela was dealt a devastating blow when a secret from her mother’s past revealed that she’d spent the first six months of her life being cared for by another woman.

Her mother, Eve, had given her up for 50,000 dollars and though she’d walked that mistake back, it still knocked Angela off her feet and made her question what she knew of her mother and her choices.

Still, even in the midst of that heartache, Angela remained on her grind as she worked to get into Franklin’s incubator program so she can further her business and get closer to the Franklin family to learn what really went down between her mother and her absentee father, Teddy.

In a surprising turn of events, Teddy told Leah point blank that he’s Angela’s father. He also pulled her into helping him make sure Angela wouldn’t pull any of the family’s skeletons out of the closet and bring a heap of trouble to their doorstep. At the same time, he snatched back his position as the head of Franklin Holdings because he’s a kingpin who can multitask.

More drama than can be succinctly summarized went down in episode 2. Here’s how it’ll play into the third episode of the season!

What is Our Kind of People episode 3 about?

Angela and her daughter Nikki haven’t exactly been on the same page since they moved to the Bluffs. They fluctuate between being there for one another and arguing about how to do right by Mama Eve. However, Angela wants to make Nikki the face of Eve’s Crown. The gesture is likely to go along way with the teen since she, too, shares a connection to her grandmother through hair care.

As she’s repairing broken communication with her daughter, Angela will also be pushing for her place in the incubator program. At this point, Leah has no real reason to deny Angela entry especially in light of the fact that they share blood, for better or worse. It’ll be another loss for Leah who can’t seem to stop losing.

First, her dad snatched the position she took from him back. Then she had to tell Raymond that she wouldn’t be able to return control of Darmon back to him. That was followed up by an unexpected and unwelcome kiss from his best friend/business partner, Jack, which her daughter Lauren saw. Now this. Leah is catching Ls all over the place and she’s set to keep catching them.

Lauren, who’s been stressed due to her best friend/secret girlfriend Taylor’s stay in the hospital, is in desperate need of support.

Her mother doesn’t approve of her sexual identity, she’s been arrested for attempted murder because Taylor told the police she pushed her off the boat, and she doesn’t really have any friends. It’s hard out here for this teen who’s prone to lashing out, so it makes sense she’d go looking for comfort in her grandmother Rose.

However, Rose (who likely has dementia) will bring more discomfort than support when she reveals a family secret at the Juneteenth Ball.

Will the whole community find out about Angela’s paternity? She spoke around the identity of her father when confiding in Tyrique but perhaps the cat will be out of the bag in episode 3.

Or will it be whatever had Aunt Piggy shook and burning a picture in the kitchen sink? The secret she’s hiding ties back to Teddy which means nothing good can come from it whatsoever.
