Welcome to the weekend! If you’re reading this, you likely had a long week and you’re ready to sit down and find something to take your mind off of whatever you had to deal with over the past 5 days. And there’s no better way to do that than to catch up on new Netflix movies and shows!

Below, we’ll also give you the best releases from this week so you know what you should be watching this weekend.

As always, we wanted to try to give you a variety of options. This week, we bring you the final season of a beloved series. We also bring you a comedy special from a legend who you either love or hate.

However, it is the spooky season so we have to offer you a scary movie or two to fill your horror needs. We will get into the list in a little more detail later but first, let’s recap the big releases from last week.

This past week saw the release of the limited series Maid, which is currently in the top 5 most popular releases on Netflix. The series is an emotional affair that will take you for a ride so be prepared to strap in if you hit play.

The other major release from the prior week was the Jake Gyllenhaal film, The Guilty. A thriller that follows Gyllenhaal as a 9-1-1 operator who gets a call and tries to save a woman who has been abducted. This thriller is also in the top 5 Netflix movies and shows at the time of this writing.

Best show this week

Of course, the best show released this week has to be On My Block. This is another show that will be ending this year and it feels like the end of an era. When On My Block arrived it was a hit immediately.

The show managed to be both fun and heartbreaking with characters that people connected to. The reviews by both critics and the general audiences through the first three seasons are phenomenal and the final season has been highly anticipated.

Early reviews for the last season of On My Block are not looking great but it is still early and there are a lot of expectations the show has to deal with so that is likely a factor. If you’ve been along for the ride so far, you have to see it through.

Best movie this week

I am aware that the new Dave Chapelle comedy special, “The Closer” is not a movie or a show, but I had to mention it here. The new special has a runtime of 72 minutes so I’m giving it the movie designation this week. Dave is one of my favorite comedians because he understands who he is and how to manipulate audiences.

Dave knows exactly how people are going to react to everything he says and he pushes the envelope because, quite simply, he can afford to. It is always entertaining to see how Dave is going to work a room and what he’s going to say to get people talking. Whether they don’t like what he has to say or they do.

What will you be watching this weekend? If we left out your pick, be sure to let us know!
