In the age of TV show reboots and movie remakes, it’s no surprise we’re getting more and more reimaginings of iconic titles month after month. But just in time for Halloween this year, horror fans are truly being fed with a good mix of original content, and yes, more sequels.

Just this week, we’ll be getting the premieres of Day of the Dead on Syfy, I Know What You Did Last Summer on Amazon Prime Video, and Halloween Kills in theaters and on Peacock. And tonight, the new series Chucky premieres, serving as a sequel to the 2017 film Cult of Chucky.

Whether you like it or not, we’re getting more from the Child’s Play franchise, but this time around there is some promise for longtime fans of the series.

Fans of the franchise are interested in what this new show will bring particularly because it sees the return of writer Don Mancini, this time serving as the creator and writer. He even directs the first episode of the season, which debuts tonight.

What is the Chucky TV show about?

So what can we expect from this series and will it differ from the films? Here’s the official synopsis from Syfy.com:

"An idyllic American town is thrown into chaos after a vintage ‘Good Guy’ doll turns up at a suburban yard sale. Soon, everyone must grapple with a series of horrifying murders that begin to expose the town’s deep hypocrisies and hidden secrets."

The cast of Chucky includes original voice actor Brad Dourif, along with Zackary Arthur, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Lexa Doig, and Devon Sawa. Though she’s not in the premiere, Jennifer Tilly will reprise her role as Tiffany Valentine in the series! How fun is that?

As you might remember, Mancini was not involved in the 2019 reboot, titled Child’s Play, and wasn’t shy about expressing his anger because of it. During a podcast appearance in 2018, he opened up about the film, admitting, “Obviously my feelings were hurt.”

At this time, there are eight movies in the Child’s Play franchise, spanning from 1988 to 2019. While you probably don’t need to watch them all to enjoy and understand the Chucky TV show, they’re worth a marathon at least once, especially this month ahead of Halloween!

Without further ado, let’s take a look at how to tune in for the premiere of Chucky tonight.
